In one episode of “Star Trek: The Next Generation,” Captain Picard felt that he was at a changing point in the affairs of humanity and wondered if one is aware of such a moment as it is happening. He remarked, “I wonder if the Emperor Honorius watching the Visigoths coming over the 7th hill truly realized that the Roman Empire was about to fall.”
Whoever posted this sign, which looks to be printed on a plain piece of paper, might have wondered the same thing: “Did they have any idea what they were witnessing?”
Probably not. I am eager to be corrected on this point, however. But it would seem a bit outrageous for them to have had an inkling of what was to come from this. Who could look at an acorn and imagine the oak tree that lies within it?
And yet, they must have had a sense they were planting something that would grow into something greater.
