This map is a bird’s-eye view from the southwest of Austin, Texas in 1873. The map was drawn by Augustus Koch, an itinerant city-view artist.
I find maps interesting, this one particularly so. Think about it – it was outdated before it was published because it showed individual buildings. Koch was clearly born at the wrong time. He evidently craved Google-Maps-level detail, but the refresh rate on his browser was two or three years.
