All labor is automated by robots. Humans, flabby from centuries of inaction, float on personal hover chairs. Is this our future? I don’t think so. Machines will indeed free us from all undesirable labor and, being thusly freed, we will have a choice what to do with our time. We can either choose the WALL-E route, and become professional couch potatoes, or we can choose to use the extra time to better ourselves.
These are the choices we face today. And it is true that some people choose the WALL-E route. But I think that will change. When we are completely freed from having to “earn a living” and instead raised from childhood simply to discover and embrace our passions, we will discover that all people have things they are passionate about.
